Subject: [Adabiyat] Orthography: RE Kasravi's Zaban- Paak PDF

Dear Dr. Miller and Other Adiban:

Here it is in PDF format. I hope our esteemed colleague, Prof. Lewis, would
allow me to send it as an attached file.
Also, may I ask our learned scholars avoid using the term "Pre-Islamic" when
referring to that geographic area we call it Eranshahr. I suppose when the
columns of Persepolis were being carved out of the near by mountains, the
words "Islam" and "Islamic" were no where on the horizon. How about simply
"ancient Iran/Persia?"

Dear Dr. Jabbari & friends,

This is a very interesting subject. Yes it seems that from what I remember
of my studies with Professor Benveniste at the Sorbonne in the 1960s that
pre-Islamic Persian used a Semitic alphabet wherein some characters represented
more than one sound like for instance 'n' and 'u' being represented by one
character so only the initiate could really understand the writings. So Persian
used a Semitic alphabet long before the Arabs invaded.

Whatever the case, personally I am a avid supporter of returning Persian to
the more original Ferdosi type non-Arabic vocabulary for certain texts. It is
so refreshing to hear simple and easily understandable pure Persian
vocabulary in Dari or regional Persian dialects. Like the Herati 'parwa nees' for
'tori nemishe' or 'magar' for 'vali' and in Kurdistan 'chawan i' for 'chetor i'
are pleasant alternatives. So how can I find a copy of Kasravi's Vazhename-ye
Zaban-e Pak?

For my attempts at translation into Persian of pre-Islamic religious texts,
I decided that Persian without any Arabic would be more in the spirit of the
texts. But when Semitic words did appear like Zara'hemla ('harvest bearing'),
Lihona ('to here' or 'compass') or Qolob ('heart' or central star governing
the galaxy), Arabic spellings were necessary with 'ayn, qaf and whatever was
appropriate because they specify those terms as Semitic since the story was
about pre-Islamic Semitic peoples. You can visit _www.farsimormon.com_
(http://www.farsimormon.com/) for instance _www.farsimormon.com/1NEPHI.html_
(http://www.farsimormon.com/1NEPHI.html) to see these translation efforts and let
me know what you think.

Of course it is silly to imagine destroying the roots of Persian literary
culture by changing the alphabet. This crime was committed against the Turks by
the dictator Attaturk who, along with Stalin and Mao, believed that
destroying peoples roots and cultures could make them more modern and also more
easily enslaved. He didn't get all the Turkic peoples into his evil conspiracy
though because, bless their hearts, the Uyghurs of East Turkistan still retain
their beautiful cursive Arabic script in the face of Chinese oppression.

If we add up all the killings committed by tyrants like Genghis Khan,
Hitler, Stalin, Mao and others, they are nothing in comparison to the utter
destruction of whole cultures wreaked on the whole globe by Westernization,
modernization and globalization. I seems that starting with the almost complete
destruction of Native American tribes and more recently greedy international
corporations using the media to eradicate traditions and replace them with stupid
ugly uniform zombieism in music, dance, literature, food, clothing, etc. (if
such terms can even be used to describe the junk they crank out) it all
represents an affront to the worlds peoples more frightening and annihilating then
any atomic weaponry. Sure, Ansari and other masters of erfan encouraged
annihilation of the ego but not of all cultural roots and inherited treasures of
the past just so some CEOs can make more money.
