Please see the Sufi dance ( a very beautiful one) sequences of a very beautiful movie called VENGO by TONY GATLIF ( if you ever had a chance, watch the movie).

 

Sufi dance which recently had been promoted by MeshkinQalam, and  performed in Turkey was introduced by Iranians to the world.

 

 Shamse Tbriz initially took this dance to Qonia and from there it was adopted, and performed by many other Sufi groups. .

 

In this kind of dance Sufi turns as the particles and planets do ( although at the time it was invented by or inspired to Shams, people were not aware of the rotation of planets and celestial bodies).

 

The other kind of dance is called SAR ANDAZI   As Mulana puts it :

 

MAN MASTE SAR-ANDAZAM, AZ ARBADEH NAGRIZAM.

 

Sar-andazi is moving the head back and forth which causes the Sufi to reach to the stage of trans..

 

Altogether using dance as a kind of prayer is the product of our culture. The same is true for music. ( two, out of many forbiden arts)
